The Library, as one of the important central facilities of the Institute, supports the study, teaching, research and development programmes of the Institute. It is housed in a separate building with three floors on a plinth area of 1000 sq. metres. The library has a collection of 1.7 lakh volumes of Print books, including Text Books, Reference Books & Bound volumes of Journals, Standards, etc. The Library subscribes to current Journals, E-Books, Databases & and Software. Library operations have been automated with the help of an integrated library software package, LIBSYS-10. The book database is accessible through the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Circulation Services are executed through the Barcode System (Scanning). It has a good collection of Electronic resources in its Digital Library. The library has introduced a Wi-Fi Internet facility inside it to facilitate the free flow of information to the users.
The library is an institutional One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) member, which provides 30 leading publishers' e-resources. It is also a member of e-Shodh Sindhu: Consortium for Higher Educational Electronics, which provides an Online e-Resource Requisition System. The library is an institutional member of Shodhganga: a reservoir of Indian Theses @ INFLIBNET.
The library is also a member of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), which provides access to content from some leading publishers’ books to the members. It has a good collection of Learning Resources. It also has a collection of several thousand E-Books on Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc., published by leading publishers.
Library: To support the study, teaching, research and development programmes of the Institute and to feed the need for learning and information resources of the faculty members and students, a library was established in 1960.
Subject Coverage: Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Chemistry, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Earth and Environmental Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Management Studies, and Physics etc.
Library Services: Circulation - Automated Circulation through Barcode Technology (Scanning). The Library provides reprography services to its members on demand. All faculty members, staff, research scholars, and UG & PG students are library members.
User awareness & Orientation Programmes: Central Library conducts Book Fair, Seminar, Orientation and User Awareness Programmes such as Author Workshop, e-resources use Platform Training for all Faculty, Research Scholars & Students regularly for its user community.
Learning Resources: Library subscribes to leading publishers’ 4000+ online journals and databases, and has 15,830+ e-books. The library has over 1.7 lakh volumes of print books and 120 National and International Print Journals. It has also subscribed to the Archives, Journals, Periodicals etc.
Accessibility: Online learning resources are accessible throughout the campus on the intranet (LAN), and print resources are open access in the Central Library. Availability of the resources can be checked through the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).
Future Plan: Strives to be a world-class library with the latest library technology, such as RFID-enabled library & information Kiosk, digital display, etc.
