Student Activity Centre Introduction

The Department of Physical Training is exist right from the inception of REC Durgapur. From the formative years the Department was an independent entity. For games & sports administration as well as academic convenience, the activities are guided by Departmental Academic Committee (DAC) & Athletic Committee respectively.

From January 2017 the department renamed as “Student Activity Centre” (SAC) and treated as Central Facilities of the Institute.
Vision & Mission
Vision

 

  1. To impart training to students through different physical activities to produce healthy engineers and scientists.
  2. To impart quality training/coaching in different games and sports & hone the skills of the students.
  3. To help the students in overall growth of personality through the medium of physical activity.

 

Mission
To train the students in physical activities so as it enable them to face the complex societal challenges in sound, health and state of mind.
Programme offered
SAC is organizing students’ choice based compulsory co-curricular credit courses (XXS-51 & XXS-52) for all first year UG, UG & PG (Dual Degree) & Integrated MSc students with one credit point in each semester. The curriculum consists of Physical Education and proficiency in major games/Yoga/Martial Art/NCC/NSS under active guidance and supervision of Physical Education official and professional coaches.
Other Activities

Beside academic activities the Centre lays emphasis on promotion of games and sports of the Institute. The Centre has been sincerely guiding both UG and PG students of the Institute in different areas of games and sports and also organized various sporting events throughout the year, be it Intra NIT or the Inter NIT and Inter University tournaments. Regular practice in every major game is carried out under the guidance and supervision of the Centre/Coaches. Institute teams are picked, trained and exposed to various levels of tournaments. The Institute Annual sports meet is also organized every year.

The center organized Institute NCC activities has a senior Division Boys/Girls wing under 10 Bengal BN NCC Asansol West Bengal.

This wing undertake co-curricular credit course (XXS-51 & XXS-52) for first two semester as well as participated NCC scheduled programme on regular basis.
Facilities in the Centre

Excellent facilities are available including well equipped multi gymnasiums for boys, girls with separate timings. This also includes the impressive ‘Lords’ Football stadium, the central Sports ground ‘Oval’ where all the major games are organized throughout the year including Volleyball courts with flood light facilities, concrete cricket practice pitch, concrete Basketball Court with flood light facilities, concrete tennis court with flood light facilities, concrete badminton courts with flood light facilities, Table Tennis, Chess, Yoga etc.

Beside central sports facilities, most of the halls of residence equipped with Volleyball and concrete badminton courts including Table Tennis and Carom board facilities.
