The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest Departments with UG course in this Institute and it was functioning from the inception of the Regional Engineering College (REC) Durgapur. The department of Civil Engineering offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. degree programs. In addition to the above courses, the Department has been regularly conducting a number of short term training programmes, seminar, conferences etc. for the benefit of faculty of technical institutions and working professionals from govt. institutions and industries. The Department is also actively engaged in the interdisciplinary academic and research activity within and outside the Institute and also in R&D, testing and consultancy activities and offer testing and consultancy services to various government departments and organizations in both the public and private sectors.
The laboratories of the Department viz. Concrete and Structural Engg., Highway Engg., Surveying, Environmental Engg., Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engg., Rock Mechanics and Water Resources Engineering, Computational Laboratory are well equipped. A major modernisation of various laboratories in the Department was taken up under DIST-FIST programme and under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.
